October 6
Sleepless in London, we arrived shortly before noon. I must have looked like a zombie as I purchased a 3 day Oyster pass for the Tube before hitting up the ATM for 200 pounds to survive touring the city. We took the Hotel Hoppa Bus 6 to the Premier London Heathrow. Determined not to give into sleep we walked across the street to catch a bus to the Tube. After one bus went whizzing by, we asked someone what to do. That’s when we found out that you need to put out your hand like hailing a taxi to catch a bus. Eventually we arrived at the Westminster Underground station and figured out where to exit. As soon as we reached the street level we were staring at Big Ben.
Gawking around, we were nearly trampled by the Londoners and tourists. We crossed the street toward the Thames and followed it along the river for a better view of the London Eye.
Then I checked the Rick Steve’s book for directions to a pub for dinner.
Still sleep deprived, somehow we managed to find Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese
where we had fish and chips with some Samuel Smith’s Extra Stout.
Late in the evening we re-entered the twilight zone and somehow found our way back to the Tube, transferred trains, found the right bus, and recognized our bus stop by the hotel. At last came welcome sleep.
