January - February
The New Year was uneventful until we decided to move a piano. Bev was preparing to sell her home in Dutch Flat. A piano that Pat had taken lessons on about 70 years ago needed a new home. When Ellen volunteered to pick it up for Ashley's use, the big move was underway. It was Presidents Day weekend when Arnie towed a rental trailer with Ellen and the rest of the family following in the family SUV on the journey from Ventura. We all converged at Bev's home in Dutch Flat on a Sunday.
The Acevedo family supplied plenty of strength. Maggie and Carson brought a piano dolly and had been working out to provide lifting power. Joe joined us with muscle and expertise in loading things. Barbara and I brought some furniture pads and some tie downs. Kim volunteered some muscle power since she was there moving some household items for a garage sale in Chico.
Bev could only hold her breath and hope for the best as we rolled the heirloom piano down the walkway and into the trailer. None of us had much experience in moving a piano, but somehow we managed to hitch up the piano dolly, lift the piano over the threshold and guide it along the walkway. Luckily, the trailer was low to the ground so it could be lifted into the trailer and secured to the front.
