2:40 pm: Delta 56 departure for Amsterdam
OUR EXPERIENCE
All was swell until 3:00 yesterday. Viking sent us a notice that the water level was low on the Rhine, so we would be spending the first four days of our cruise riding busses and hopping from hotel to hotel, then we would hop on a clone of our Viking cruise ship to journey towards Budapest.
This morning we were up at 3:30am to reach Bill & Lana’s in time to check in at the Sacramento airport. Greg gave Bev, Barbara, and me a ride to the airport. On the way Greg updated us about his family’s recent trip to Fuji, his plans to prepare for the World triathlon competition, and Parker’s and Mason’s plans for the school year.
We had no problem checking into flight to Salt Lake City. On the plane to Salt Lake City I sat next to a young man headed back home from California. He had spent the summer working for one of his brothers selling pesticides. He would soon be preparing for a two year LDS mission, then he planned on attending college in Utah. We shared Boy Scout stories. His dad was a Boy Scout leader and all of his three brothers had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His eagle scout project consisted of painting a school gymnasium.
Transferred to flight to Amsterdam
Met Dutch family of four who had travelled around the US, shared photo of distant grizzly bear
9 hours cramped in narrow seat with very little leg room, bulging back pack between legs (not a good idea)
Headphones purchased for my computer worked great with movies and later with hearing devices on tours.
Watched Annie for distraction
Delta provided flight monitor to track flight in real time including speed and other details.
