ACAPULCO
We could read Acapulco's welcome sign from the ship's deck.
Bill, Pat, and Stanley golfed.
Colette and Craig toured the museum, fort, and surroundings.
The rest of us hired a taxi and tour guide for a personal tour of the city
First, he took us to see the cliff divers at "La Quebrada"
The divers climb the cliff, pray at a shrine to Our Lady, then ascend the rocks to a diving spot
where they dive over one hundred feet into the ocean below.
Next, our guide showed us the hotel where John Wayne and other Hollywood stars once stayed. We met the owner who is pictured as a young man next to John Wayne in the old photograph.
Here we are on the hotel's patio near the restaurant where tourists watch the divers.
Lana found a rooster and we began our tour of the rest of Acapulco.
We toured the Cathedral then visited our tour guide's sister-in-law's store.
Then we traveled past the beaches, hotels, and condos up the hill to the Chapel of Peace.
Perched on one of the highest hills in Acapulco, it was erected as a memorial to two children who perished in a plane crash.
The tour ended with a drive back to a restaurant near our ship.
The food was great even without our favorite Corona beer.
The Radiance of the Seas pulled out of the harbor as the sun went down.
Back on board saw the colorful and talented Ballet Folklorico
After a little night cap, we encountered more strange bedfellows.
