5. Wichita, Kansas to St. Louis Missouri

Thursday, July 17

Our journey east continued as we traveled from Wichita to the Kansas border. There we left the plains behind as we drove through El Dorado Springs, Collins, then Wheatland Missouri. We stopped to take pictures of the bandstand in El Dorado Springs, Collins, our namesake town, and Wheatland High School whose name matched our California favorite:

Then we wandered through the Lake of the Ozarks...

...as we headed north to cross the Missouri and then east to our final Thursday destination, St. Louis, home of the Gateway Arch and of the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium:

As the sun was dimming, we decided to ride the tram to the top of the Gateway Arch. The tunnel-like ride is not for the claustrophobic especially as it nears the narrow summit. Joe posed at the bottom of one side. We joined him under the center of the arch as the sun set:

We spent Thursday night at Twin Island Lake Campground and rested for new adventures across the Mississippi.

Next: St. Louis to Oregonia, Ohio
