October 9

The journey to downtown London went as usual. Bus 81, H98, or 22 to Hounslow West. Hounslow West Underground to Holborn Station. From the Holborn Station we would walk today to the British Museum. With help from the locals we found our way.

The highlights and Parthenon sculpture audio tours were a tremendous guide through ancient art and sculpture. Whatever the Americans didn’t steal for the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the British had taken to London.

At any rate, the artifacts were displayed free of charge for millions to see. The Egyptian mummy area was jam packed with school children and tourists. Still we navigated the crowds through labyrinths of gallery rooms to see the artifacts with narration. As a result we had an in depth refresher course in Egyptian, Middle East, Roman, Roman Britain, and Greek art.

After a quick ham and cheese baguette we had to leave the art behind for our next adventure, a flight to Lisbon.

We arrived at Heathrow in plenty of time to rest a little, have some ribs at T.G.I Fridays and to catch our plane at 7:50pm. By 10:30 we had arrived in Lisbon. After a nightmare of no directions through customs we hailed a taxi to the Amazonia Jamor Hotel on the opposite side of Lisbon. Thirty euros lighter, we learned our lesson about finding a hotel closer to the airport.
