MIKALA'S BIRTHDAY #5

We had a great time at the Chico skating rink...

...with lots of pizza, presents, and pictures with all my friends.

Even my sister, Tori, skated and played in the arcade.

Later on, we played in the Jumpy House.

Cameron and Tori and all of us had lots of fun jumping.

My grandmas and grandpas, and uncle Joe watched; and my Dad let in four at a time.

It was a great birthday party.

JOE'S BIRTHDAY / MOTHER'S DAY

QUARRY ROAD TRAIL

We hiked in search of the elusive quarry.

After visiting the nearby Hawver cave, we hiked along the quarry trail missing the old quarry.

Several miles up the trail from the American River we came to a gathering of trails.

Several miles later we ended up at the new quarry on Highway 49 near Cool.

Hiking down Highway 49 several miles and an old PG&E road several more miles took us down to the old quarry. Barbara is standing at the base of the quarry for perspective.

The hike from the old quarry rock to the foundations of the old quarry and railroad was short.

After a short rest we headed back to the truck a few miles and then back home to a couple of Sierra Nevada brews. We had found the elusive quarry and could hardly wait for an easier hike around Lake Walton next week at the annual fishing derby.

LAKE WALTON FISHING DERBY

Carson watched as Dad showed him how to cast then he pondered Dad's fishing strategy.

Mom got into the action too and came up with the catch of the day, a mighty branch.

Grandpa Scott helped too with treasures from his tackle box...

...friendly advice and a few casting lessons...

Then Smokey the Bear showed up...

...with badges and pins and special fish.

Donuts helped keep the energy up until the cousins came.

Wyatt and Helena tried their luck too...

...but the fish just weren't biting.

Sienna squirmed to join her brother and sister then led the way to Grandma's for lunch.
